A classic effect, built for modern users - the EF-X2 couples the sounds you know and love, with features and reliability unimaginable in the past. In designing the EF-X2, the team here at Echo Fix began with the knowledge and insight gained from our work as the world's foremost experts in spare parts, servicing and repairing vintage tape echo units. Put simply, we know how tape echos should sound and operate.

We spent three years prototyping, rigorously testing, and meticulously designing in secret - while accounting for every possible application. We couldn't find a new production motor good enough so we made our own and invested in the latest high tech machinery to custom balance them in house here at Echo Fix. We could not find tape heads that sounded good enough so we had custom tape heads manufactured to our exact specs.

One of the other important things when it comes to reliable tape echo operation is the tape loop. We thoroughly researched tape and have a tape formulation that not only lasts a very long time but sounds incredible as well, that is how far we were willing to go to make the EF-X2 reliable and sound great!

What we have built is a warm sounding tape echo with a modern feature set that is at home in the professional recording studio, live guitar rig, bedroom production setup or in any other context you can dream up, we cannot wait for the EF-X2 to become an integral part of your creative process.

"During recording I am usually put off using tape echo units as I don't want to fall in love with a sound that I will not be able to replicate on tour. The EF-X2 enables me to record and tour with an amazing, consistent sound due to the quality and sturdiness of the design and construction." JOJI MALANI - GANG OF YOUTHS

Forest delights

The EF-X2 is like a Pandora’s box of delight that transports you to magical garden of sounds full of cute little animals that sound heavenly when they sing and also lots of hidden places that surprise you but you’re really glad you found them but there are also old familiar friends that are always wonderful to catch up with. It’s the best effects unit I own for sure

Catalyst for Creativity

I thought echoes are kinda nice. They add depth... great. Then I got my Echofix and started recording through it. WOW!!! I've rarely been so inspired by a piece of gear. You can really play this effect and it dynamically responds so beautifully.

Interacting with a moving piece of machinery adds such a haptic element to your music-making that goes far beyond the advantage that this being a brilliant sounding echo.

It allows you to explore sounds and expand your creativity in subtle or extreme ways, depedning on what you're going for that day. Furthermore the routing abilities are stellar. I can connect multiple devices to it at the same time and have it ready for whatever I need it on. I'm on the market for a second one already. The price is worth it and it's built like a tank!

Lush and organic sounding tape echo

After using the EF-X2 for a couple of weeks with guitars, moogs and in the studio I really have to thank you again for making such a wonderful open and warm and at the same time lush and organic sounding tape echo (and for keeping the old ones alive). Pure inspiratiion. Mine is in good company with an old RE-201 and an Echorec 2 T7E. It sounds a bit different from the 201 (of course it’s brand new and will develop a bit more tape modulation over time) but is a very welcome addition when it comes to having different colors of analog delay available. The two preamps and the real spring reverb in the current version are awesome and exceed all expectations, although the DSP Reverb sounds killer as well and is shockingly versatile. For ambient and space echoes the sound on sound option by adding a fourth head is unbelieveably cool. I read in a couple of reviews (obviously written by people, who don’t really know a RE-201) that the number of head combinations with the EF-X2 is significantly smaller than in the original, just because they only compare the numbers printed around the dial. In fact, you have more combinations available, because you can add reverb to all of the (seven different) settings plus add the fourth head on top of each … ;) Shane is an unbelievably kind, experienced and knowledgable guy and it’s always great doing business with him!
